Ideal order for 2 at Scarpetta?

I've searched the board but I haven't seem many recent "what to order" posts on Scarpetta. I'm going tomorrow night with a friend for a birthday celebration. What's the ideal 2-person order?

I was thinking:

Polenta
Short ribs

Spaghetti with tomato and basil

Then either the black cod, pink snapper, or the branzino

Any advice/suggestions?

Thanks in advance!

  1. -- the black cod is the classic there, so i'd say get that...

-- while the polenta and the short ribs are both much loved dishes, the short ribs come w/ farro (i think)...so polenta, short-ribs-w/-farro, then spaghetti might be a bit heavy/carby (especially because the bread basket is fantastic)...my personal preference would be to substitute the yellowtail crudo or the artic char crudo for one of the first two dishes...

-- chocolate cake is excellent too, if you are having dessert

    Enjoy, and please report back

    1. My only change to your plan would be to substitute the short ribs for the duck and foie gras ravioli - I understand it's substituting another pasta in place of an appetizer, but I was underwhelmed by the short rib appetizer but blown away by this pasta. That might be my dream meal at Scarpetta:

      bread
      polenta
      spaghetti + ravioli
      black cod

This is the exact meal I shared about a week ago, and it was fabulous. I was sorry to have had to leave off the short ribs, but really enjoyed the duck and fois gras ravioli.

Another vote for the duck and foie ravioli. Love!

      2. Don't forget to save space for the bread basket and dessert.

        1. The mushrooms with polenta and the spaghetti with tomato and basil are Conant signatures, so I think that either or both are must-haves. The mushrooms/polenta is very rich, so one order for the two of you should be more than enough. If you also do the spaghetti, split one order. Otherwise, unless you both have gargantuan appetites, there's no way you will have room for a main course. Even so, it could be a struggle since there is that wonderful bread basket. Plus, main course portions are very generous. I agree with Simon that the black cod, which is superb, has become another classic.

          1. I went with two friends. We split the polenta, two spaghetti orders (which the kitchen plated for us into three plates), the black cod, and the branzino. We loved it all, but all three of us preferred the branzino over the cod. We also got the passion fruit panna cotta, banana budino (I think), and chocolate cake. Enjoyed all, but preferred the panna cotta because it was so unique.

            1. I had the pink snapper as an entree and while there was nothing wrong with it, I would not order it again. Too many better choices.

              1. the mushroom polenta is a given. don't think twice. it should be thought of like XLBs at Joe's Shanghai. the question isn't if you'll have it. it's how long will you wait to order it.

i also really enjoy their sheep's milk ricotta raviolis with pea shoots and beef gellie.

                1. In the end, we decided on the Yellowtail crudo, spaghetti, duck and foie gras ravioli, and the black cod. We decided to forgo the polenta for the breadbasket and I'm glad we did. We were too full for dessert but we were given a plate of mignardises, which we easily finished!

Everything was just excellent - it was a lovely meal. I can't wait to go back. Thanks for all of your suggestions.
