Had a good meal at Duke's BBQ..2nd tripfor me..AYCE buffet. Chopped pork, fried chicken (not quite as good as last trip), they were a little slower and turnover was not very fast but still good, chicken liver, mac n cheese, cole slaw, variety of vegs and 3 good dessert..a banana pudding, peach cobbler, don't remember 3rd. Go hungry..:)

I noticed a small place..Spotted Pig..just a few picnic tables. Very good bbq sandwich. Next time I'll try the ribs.

Thx, I'll check Polk's next trip. Couldn't find much on the net but I've got them on speed dial to get hours. I should be back in the area in the next month or so.

BTW, 1 thing I forgot to mention about Duke's. This place is an amazing bargain. I think my ayce was $10 but they charge a ridiculously low price for "super seniors." I think it was $6 or 7 for my 82 yo mother..including unlimited tea or soft dinks. I didn't notice if they serve alcohol. Normally, I feel cheap is cheap (and not worth it to me) but they are putting out a high quality product at a great price.

Never heard of Polk's but it's a good ways out of town (at least 15 miles) so it may indeed be there. Probably best accessed from exit 53 coming north on I-95. I may have to venture out for a try!

Duke's has no liquor. I eat on Wednesdays for less than $7 with tax and all. Me and the rest of the oldies. That's when it's REALLY fresh!

Have to try the Pig next time.

ggogle maps recs exit 43 and take 21 N..left at Snider Hwy/63. They said funky hours, not unusual with true bbq joints.

I enjoy exploring and finding new places and Litlemans been spot on for me.

So I made a point of cruising by Spotted Pig (road construction so easy to miss -- up and across the street from the SC Artisans' Center). Open Wed.-Sat., cash only. Had their small plate pulled pork, nicely sauced, a bit chewy and a little dry. We were having a sugar attack, so the baked beans works just fine -- may be too sweet for some. Excellent slaw, not mayonnaise-y, not sour. The old man gave me a sample of their pound cake -- home made and moist. Platter was $6.50 tax included -- a much better deal than any fast food meal.

I've been to the Spotted Pig a few times on my way to/from the beach--they are indeed a bargain. I think the last time I was there last year, I paid less than $5 for a big sweet tea, a good sized bbq sandwich and a side of green beans.

I'm headed down to Bluffton next week, I'm going to have to make a brief detour to visit again!

After numerous phone calls, I finally left a msg on Thurs.A nice woman called me back yesterday. Hours at Polk's are 11am-9PM, Fri and Sat only.

I have no other info as I didn't want to run up her phone bill, by asking a lot of stupid questions.

I'll work it into my next trip and report back.

Please do ... nothing like finding a treasure in your back yard! If it weren't for Easter, I'd head out today, and I'll be away for the next two week ends.
