Best Chavela drink
Just back from the Imperial Valley where we tried two local favorites, their special quesadilla, which is a deep fried flour tortilla stuffed with cheese and a Chavela, a beer and spicy Clamato lime juice concoction. Has anyone had one (the drink) in a bar or restaurant here in LA that is particularly good? I'm not interested in the bottled Bud Michelada, but a more home made drink, unique to a particular bartender or bar. There is an old 2006 thread in the general board discussing these types of cocktails of which our Dommy was a part. Here, I'm looking for the name of a restaurant. Thanks.

I had one a while back at Hungry Cat that was very good. I also particularly like the one served at the Gold Room in Echo Park although I would not recommend going there if you are over 25.

Not known as a Chavela but as a Michealada which is Clamato, beer, lime juice and hot sauce is served at Raphael's in Montebello on the northwest corner of Wilcox and Beverly Blvds. They serve it in an ice cold schooner and rim it with salt. Very good and their Mexican food is also very good.

How funny! You may recall from previous threads over the years that I love Raphaels's chile verde, and have eaten there often. But before I had never heard of or had a Chavela or Michealada. Now I have twice the reason to go. Thanks.
