It's my birthday! I need dining suggestions.

My birthday is this week and I have no idea where I would like to go for dinner. It will be just me and my boyfriend and I would like a place that is romantic, quiet, and not too expensive. I am open to all cuisine and suggestions. Your help is greatly appreciated!

Thanks

Indika on Westheimer is very elegant and I think the decor would qualify as romantic. The food is excellent. Pre-dinner you could always try the mango margaritas.

How much is too expensive? Do you have alcohol with your meal, that will run the tab up fast. What area of town?

First off I would recommend Brennan's - for dinner with 2 people you could probably get by around $100. It's is well worth it. Beautiful, romantic, wonderful food and exceptional service. A little less than that and you could select Bonnie's Beef and Seafood.

$100 for two people is our budget for the night. As far as drinks are concerned I will probably have a cocktail with the meal and my boyfriend really doesn't drink especially if he's driving (He's a great man). I'm looking for some place near the Galleira/Midtown area maybe even downtown.

Brennan's is downtown. Check out their menu and you could do it if you ordered one appetizer, two entrees and one dessert. We were there for brunch recently, had 3 drinks between us, two appetizers, two entrees and two desserts and it was $120 with tip. Not bad. Dinner would be a bit more but it's such a great place and the food is really good. Shrimp and grits is the highlight but I don't know if it's served at dinner.

In the Galleria area I always like to eat at Grotto. They have the most awesome scampi. I think you could do it for $100 without a problem. http://www.grottohouston.com/ Prices are on the menu. The only thing I've eaten there that was not great is the Shrimp Paillard. Parking is tricky, but I'm pretty sure there is a parking garage behind their building. In that parking lot in the front, it's either valet or the places are reserved for the other stores. There's nowhere near enough parking for all the stores there. I don't valet after a bad experience. The service there has always been very accommodating. I think overall that it is a very good place.

Since you'll save a few bucks on not spending much on etoh, and you want romantic, near the galleria, perhaps downtown,, i'd head over to the Post Oak Grill or,,, Ibiza downtown.. Great food, service,, u won't have to shout to hear each other talk, nice lighting, both good looking restaurants.. i don't think you'd be disappointed at either. Enjoy,, and,, tell us where you eventally landed.
