Union Square Cafe - does it ever change?

I have a vendor in from Chicago who insists on going here. He is paying so who am I to argue. I ate here about 10 years ago and thought is was excellent. My question is; has the menu changed or evolved. Take away the reputation both good and bad what can I expect as far as meal and experience quality.

  1. True, there are dishes on the menu that stay. But there are new things as well. We had lunch there a week ago. There were three of us. Every dish was perfectly prepared and incredibly delicious.

I should note that we have actually only been to USC three times. The first was in the mid-90's, and that meal was such a disappointment, it took us years to decide to return. When we did three years ago, the food was excellent. After this recent lunch, we'll be putting USC into our regular dining rotation.

Presuming you are going for dinner? Looking at the menu on the website, I don't see the 5 Spice Fried Duck Meatballs listed, but if they are on the menu when you are there, definitely get them. Lamb Chops "Scotta Dita" (second time I've had them), Lasagne Bolognese topped with the egg, both gnocchis, and Mascarpone Cheesecake (not-to-be-missed!).

    1. Carmen Quagliata took over from Michael Romano a few years ago, so, no, it's not exactly the same as it was before.
