Comparison Check for Manhattan Recs

Hi all,

I have three dinners in Manhattan that I need your input on. All of these restaurants have been highly rated by diners, I've been doing my research on the boards. But I need to narrow it down still further.

Ai Fiori vs. Lupa Osteria Romana vs. Scarpetta vs. Picholine
Bar Boulud vs. Cafe Boulud
Jean George vs. Bar Boulud vs. Picholine (specifically for pre-theater dining)
Jean George vs. Le Bernadin

To give you some perspective, we'll be eating at EMP, Maialino, Colicchio & Sons, and Oceana already. ( started with a list of 18 restaurants.)

thanks!

Really? I'm surprised given that Tom Colicchio was just awarded the James Beard 2010 Award.

I took a quick look at your posts and I don't see a comment from you about them.

If not C&Sons, then do you have a lunch recommendation in that area?

Do you think he is actually cooking in all of the many restaurants he owns? And the James Beard Award is nothing more than a popularity contest.

I didn't post about it because I don't post about many meals I eat - not interesting or important.

Near that area I recommend Trestle on Tenth. Lovely place, good food, very pleasant.

If price is not a consideration (you have a wide range in the first 3 sets of choices) I would pick Ai Fiori, Cafe Boulud (I've not been there but trust those who have), Picholine and Jean Georges.

Colicchio & Sons doesn't interest me. But applause for choosing EMP, Maialino and Oceana for your dining itinerary.

          I would do:

          Ai Fiori
          Bar Boulud
          Le Bernardin

EMP should be fantastic and Oceana is a good choice as well.

I haven't been to all of the restaurants (Lupa, Bar Boulud, JG, Picholine) on your list but from where I have been I will say I recommend:

            Ai Fiori

            Scarpetta

            Cafe Boulud

Le Bernardin unfortunately was a serious disappointment, as many have already read in my long recent review.

As for the dinners you already have schedule they are all wonderful choices- EMP, Oceana, and Maialino. Haven't been to CC but it is high on my list of next to try. I love Craft and and a big Colicchio fan.
