Vegetarian tasting menus at different prices
Hi all,
I am delurking to see if I can get some feedback on a dinner I am organizing. It's a celebration, so I want it to be something nice. It'll have a mix of vegetarians and non-vegetarians, and I was hoping to do some sort of chef's or tasting menu of 4-5 courses.
The sticking point is the price. I've read through the previous threads on the topic and the most fascinating, if it was up to me, would be Providence. But at $95 plus tax and tip, it might be out of the price range of many of my guests.
So I want to present people with a few options at different levels, but many of the places people recommend don't have the tasting menus listed on their Web sites, so it is hard to get a sense of cost. Do people have any recommendations for options less than Providence - things in the $50/$75 category (before tax, tip, and drinks)? Or do I need to give up the tasting idea if I go that low?
Ideally, it would be in central Los Angeles/Hollywood.
Thanks!

XIV does a 7-course vegetarian tasting menu for $65.
Il Grano does a 5-course for around $50.
Joes' on Abbot Kinney would be another option but i'm guessing that's too far West for you.-----

Not in Hollywood and not directly responsive, but Embassy Kitchen in San Gabriel has a great vegetarian 10 course menu. You can reserve a private room. Not elaborate decor, but adequate in the private room. I haven't done it in several year, and so the price is a bit hazy... probably about $300/table. Free corkage. I did something similar there to what you are planning and juiced it up with lobster and fish for the nonvegetarians.
