Fried Green Tomatoes?

A friend's European parents are visiting and she wants them to try Fried Green Tomatoes... is there anywhere in NYC to get great fried tomatoes with a traditional southern topping? (If not, I'm going to teach her to make it herself)

I haven't had them in a restaurant, ever (I make my own), but I think you'll have a decent shot at happiness at Clinton St. Baking Company, 5 Ninth, B. Smith's, Mara's Homemade and Live Bait (all of which I've been to, and all of which could likely pull it off).

Dinosaur has good ones though I am no expert...and the rest of the food is pretty good too. Might be a fun experience for europeans

very timely thread. i'm just home from Dinosaur and tried their fried green tomatoes for the first time. never had it before so i can't compare, but i didn't find them to be so special. everything else was excellent, as usual, but the chili remains the standout.

I believe Mara's has closed (or is closing), FYI.

Looking at that list, I think the food at RUB is pretty great if you don't want to head all the way up to Dinosaur. The food at Delta Grill is definitely down market, but you could do worse in Hell's Kitchen, and they do a decent hurricane.
