Philly with kids this weekend -- Rec for early Sat. night dinner?

We live in DC and are visiting Philly this weekend with kids aged 7 and 2. Kids are adventurous eaters, so cuisine isn't a limitation. Real impediments are: all adult patrons, quiet settings, white tablecloths, etc. We are hoping to find a place that we (the foodie adults) will enjoy without feeling uncomfortable. Hopefully the 6pm dining time will assist that.

Would appreciate any recommendations. We're staying at th Omni at Independence Park, so something within walking distance from there (but not necessarily right there) would be ideal.

PS:

Would also appreciate any thoughts on:

--great cheesteaks in the area for lunch. (We typically have hit Jim's, and love it)
--great diner-type place for Sunday breakfast.

Thanks in advance!

We take the kids to Vietnam, and it has always been a positive experience. FYI- no high chairs, but they do have a few boosters. The atmosphere is a bit noisy, which is perfect.

Famous 4th St Deli is at 4th and Bainbridge, about 4 blocks from you and would serve either of the needs, of dinner or brunch.

I'm going to suggest Rangoon in Chinatown for dinner. You don't need a reservation, especially on the early side, they are very kid-friendly, and the food is fantastic (sort of a mix between Thai, Chinese and Indian). It is one of our "family" places. Even our picky eater finds things she likes, and the more adventurous of us are always satisfied.

For Sunday, Jones is a little more upscale than a diner, but very good, also kid-friendly, and convenient for you.

Also, not related to your request but if the weather is nice you should check out Franklin Square between 6th and 7th just above Race Street. It is a great square in the middle of a busy area that is actually amazingly tranquil and has a carousel, miniture golf (with city landmarks as the holes) and a playground. Plus there is Square Burger with really good backyard grill sized burgers. http://historicphiladelphia.org/day/f...

From my experience last summer, I'm not a fan of Square Burger. My medium rare burger was quite rare. They had no sauerkraut to garnish their hot dogs. Nor did they have brown mustard. Their ice cream was, I think, Haagen-Daz (a fake exotic brand) rather than a real Philadelphia delight like Bassett's.

You could go to Jones on 7th and Chestnut Sts. It is upscale comfort food, but perfectly fine to take kids.

Campo's and Sonnys are right on Market Street near your hotel and have good steaks. The other option is to hit the Reading Terminal Market between 11th and 12th and Arch and get a steak at Pasta by George or Carmens and try a roast pork from DiNic's (Phila's "other" sandwich.)
Not really diner but Cafe Estelle on 4th between Callowhill and Spring Garden has great brunch, locally sourced, house cured meats, etc.

breakfast at the counter at the Pennsylvania dutch stand at the Reading Terminal Market is good and cheap. Also agree with getting cheese steak or pork sandwich in the market. also the new england clam chowder at the oyster stand is very good. you could graze throughout the market for breakfast or lunch or some combo of each.

Two of my favorite places in the city are a quick walk from there: Amada (tapas, 200 block of Chestnut) and Han Dynasty (Szechuan, 100 block of Chestnut). Amada is nice, but definitely not quiet. And, if you can get a reservation, it would probably be an early one anyway. Han Dynasty takes reservations as well.

For breakfast, I'd recommend Delicatessen on the 700 block of Chestnut. Modern Jewish deli, good food, good value.
