Saturday Lunch in Tribeca or Soho (No reservations)

I'm driving down to NYC from Boston on Saturday and would like to have lunch near my hotel when I arrive. I'm staying at the Greenwich Hotel (on Greenwich St.), so my first choice is Locanda Verde if I can get a table without a reservation. But I would like to have a back-up plan. Because I can't be sure exactly when I'm going to arrive, a reservation isn't really an option. I'm looking for something that is fresh and not too fussy (maybe something like Jane). Any ideas?

Don't forget that you can dine at the bar at Locanda Verde.
If you're going to go to Soho, I think that brunch at Lani Kai is very nice and you can get their specialty drinks for only $9 (as opposed to $13 at night).

You could do worse than brunch at Marc Forgione. Crowds ebb and flow, though, so it's hard to say if there'd be a table at any given time. Also, the new David Burke Kitchen has a pretty interesting brunch and is within 5 mintues' walk.

  According to the website Marc Forgione does not serve brunch on Saturday (only on Sunday).
  I think a late Saturday lunch at Locanda Verde would not be a problem for a single diner. Other options nearby: Cercle Rouge, Odeon, Landmarc.

I really like Blaue Gans for a Saturday lunch, and though it gets busy there are always some tables available.

i'm only mentioning this because i firmly believe it's one of the best deals in Manhattan...Bouley serves lunch on Saturday - five courses for $45. it's fussy and nothing like Jane, but thought you should know. stay out of Plein Sud...no good.
