Traveling to St. Simons Island in Georgia (so south it's almost in Florida!) next weekend. Would love some tips on where to dine! I'm vegetarian (no meat or fish) and would like restaurants that offer me and my family choices.

I look forward to your replies!

Lavendula - I just came across this and realize my response might be late. If so, please disregard. I live on St. Simons Island and there are wonderful restaurant options that you may want to consider. Among the first that come to mind are the Fourth of May Cafe and Barbara Jean's, both in the Pier Village area. Each offers a very nice and tasty selection of vegetable dishes and casseroles that are sure to please. My wife, though not vegetarian herself, typically chooses this route when we dine there because they are so good. Some other thoughts that come to mind include CJ's Pizza (best on the island) and Tramici Italian Restaurant. Again, in both cases you can order meatless entrees. On the mainland in Brunswick, I would recommend CARGO Portside Grill, Indigo Coastal Shanty and Brewburgers. All are owned and operated locally and have chefs whom I think would be happy to provide any assistance you might need.

I hope this is helpful. If you haven't already, I hope you have a most enjoyable visit to St. Simons Island!

    Best regards,

    Patrick Saylor

Sadly I hear that Cargo is no longer with us, a great loss for our community.

Never even heard of CJ's pizza?

Are the vegetables at Babara Jean's not cooked with pork?

Good to see Southern Soul back up and running as we should be visiting again in June.

No seafood is tough on the island.
