Please help with dinner near Carnegie Hall

  • 9

We will be coming into New York from Philly next week - Friday evening - for a concert at Carnegie Hall and would like a place for dinner that isn't too expensive.

In looking over past posts, I saw mentions of Rue 57 and Brasserie 8 and 1/2. Would you recommend either of these?

I know that Trattoria Dell Arte is close, but with many entrees in the mid thirties and appetizers at 15 or 20, this would add up to more than we would like to spend.

Any other suggestions?

Thank you.

  1. I have not been to Rue 57 or Brasserie 8 1/2, and therefore can't comment on those two restaurants, but you might look into the pre-theater menu at La Silhouette.

La Bonne Soupe is also good, though I find it cramped and a bit too noisy.

For Indian, Bay Leaf. For asian, Katsu Hama or maybe Ma Peche on West 55th Street.

Ma Peche may be too expensive for them as well, however the dinner prix fixe is $35 per person.

    2. Can you go up to Columbus Circle? If so: Blue Ribbon Sushi or Nougatine. A smidge further: Bar Boulud...

Thank you, but his time we will be with a lady who can't walk very far. I should have mentioned that in my post.

Seasonal has to be my favorite restaurant in the area. appetizers and entrees are just a bit below Trattoria del Arte, but the food is in a whole other class.

          Molyvos was my thought too.

        2. Petrossian (58th & 7th Ave) has a $38 prix-fixe dinner. Check out their menu on line. As for Rue 57, I've been there and can say it's fine for what it is...that is, good (not great) typical offerings.
