Peterborough NH closings

Msample Apr 7, 2011 10:48 AM

Cantine, the Mexican place that opened only a couple years ago, closed this past Friday.

Aqua Bistro closed back in January. There is remodeling underway with promises of a spring opening. No word on the new place, but local rumor has it still being high end cuisine, with presumably high prices. Too bad - this town desperately needs a mid range place between Pearl and the townie dive that is Brady's. Harlowe's is the only option, and it is lacking in many areas ( service, limited menu ) .

And Aesop's Tables, the cafe inside the Toadstool bookstore, has changed ownership. A coworker went and said there is some visible change, for the better apparently.

It's tough to keep a restaurant going in P'bo. Is Del Rossi's still open?

We have been lamenting the loss of Cantine and Acqua Bistro, but our new go-to favorite is Sunflowers Cafe in Jaffrey. I had a really nice entree of scallops the other evening and they were cooked perfectly. Other dining companians had haddock, fish and chips (with great sweet potato fries) and a vegetarian ravioli. Everyone in our group left happy. I've heard rumors that Aylmer Given (who had Aylmer's where Sunflowers is now) may be the chef at the soon to open replacement for Acqua Bistro in Depot Square, but that is just a rumor as far as I know.

Loved our brunch at Sunflowers last summer. Thanks for the reminder.

Just had dinner at the new Peterborough restaurant The Waterhouse was very pleased. We started with the hand-cut fries with rosemary, sage and sea salt--they are were addicting. Also had the olives. Then my friend had perfectly cooked salmon with roasted beets and rutabagas, and I had a tasty vegetarian loaf on a bed of mashed potatoes and gravy with kale and roasted squash rings. Perfect espressos. Professional service. The location on the river is nice and I'll bet will be nice to set outside in the good weather.
