Weekend in Warwick\Providence RI

We are going to see my Son graduate from school the first weekend of May. He lives in Warwick and the graduation is at RICC. I think, but I haven't commited yet, to having dinner at San Vivaldo Trattoria, where I've eaten one other time.

I also need a nice place for lunch on Sunday before we head home. I'm thinking either right near RICC so that we can walk after the graduation, or somewhere back in Warwick before we drop him off at his apartment and head home.

I will have my 75 year old Mother with me, who is a pretty good walker but we probably can't walk too far from RICC just to be on the safe side. (Although she'd probably walk me under the table, to tell the truth). It is my guess that graduation won't be over until 1:30-2:00 so there may be some places not even open then.

We are a pretty relaxed group, so nothing elegant is needed but it is a special occasion weekend.

  1. You may have to be a bit more explicit on location. RICC, all I can think of is RI Convention Center (in Providence) or RI Country Club (in Barrington.)

Sorry, It is the convention center, apparently right in Providence.

You might want to read this thread http://chowhound.chow.com/topics/775112

Federal Hill, with a lot of dining options, is just under a half-mile walk from the Convention Center. You'd have to decide whether that's too far for Mom. Anything much closer is either not worth eating at, or else it's chain steakhouses for people on expense account (Capital Grille, Ruth's Chris, Fleming's)

    2. You're going to have a really tough time booking anywhere this late. All the good places are booked. Post grad days are usually booked by Valentine's Day.

Perhaps, but URI, Providence & Brown are all the the end of May. Matt goes to NEIT, which is a small technical school and graduation is on May 1.

Hopefully, it won't be a problem. If it is, we will make do.

            Oh, you're probably fine then.

Wish I knee of anything good in the RICC area. If anything comes tomind, I'll post.
