Recs for Lunar (Chinese) New Year Dinner - Torrance/Gardena area

I'd appreciate recs for Lunar New Year dinner.

We're looking for an alternative to the usual suspects in MP/Arcadia and want to venture into the Torrance/Gardena area.

Hong Kong-style and/or emphasis on seafood would be ideal.

FYI: We've already ruled out Sea Empresss as an option.

I vaguely remember hearing about a Chinese place in that general vicinity that has some sort of South American connection (maybe the owners/chefs are Chinese-South American?). Does this ring a bell for anyone?

  1. I've been to Regal Palace about 4 or 5 times now, and it's actually pretty good. It's also quite a bit 'fancier' than the other Chinese restaurants in Lomita...

Regal Palace has since closed and been gone for about a year. The replacement, P.V. Seafood Palace, is OK.

    2. the only restaurants that ring a bell for something like that is the chain called chong's - which is pretty bad chinese fast food in my opinion. but the owners were raised in cuba/peru. they have a "higher end" place in manhattan beach called china grill (http://www.chinagrillbistro.com/aspx/...), which i think is so-so.

      1. Well there's El Recoto next to the 99 Ranch Market in Gardena, which I believe is a Chinese owned Peruvian restaurant with a few Chinese dishes on the menu.

I'll have to look closer and check out the menu. I've looked in there several times and never saw Asians eating in there.

        2. I know you've ruled it out, but Sea Empress is best option in the area.
