Fish Taco Recs

  • 7

If I would like to have a good fish taco in the San Diego area, where should I go? Also, if I am looking for casual family-friendly dining what would you recommend (which features the local specialities)? My kids like to try different types of foods. They can also eat medium spicy foods.

  1. If you are in North County...I would say Los Tacos in Oceanside. San Diego Proper there are more informed people to recommend.

    1. Um. . .you do realize that San Diego County is the size of Connecticut right? Different people on this site will be able to give you good recommendations based on what part of San Diego are looking at.

      1. where are you staying?

        1. Mariscos El Prieto, the truck on the corner of main and 4th. Look for the truck in the car audio parking lot. Waaaaay down in South country in Chula Vista, but worth the drive if you want a great fish taco.

Tijuana Oyster Bar in Bonita is also great.

          1. I will be near the touristy areas (e.g. Sea World, San Diego Zoo, Coronado Beach, La Jolla, Balboa Park, Legoland).

Okay, now we're getting somewhere. For impeccable seafood, and okay fish tacos, Blue Water would fit the bill. If you're feeling more adventurous go for the fish tacos at Mariscos German, found here http://chowhound.chow.com/topics/770219. Mama Testa isn't really known for its fish tacos, but they beat Bobby Flay in Showdown, and its close to the Park.

Be sure to give the chalkboard at Blue Water your attention. Much better than the standard menu.

Mama Testa would be good for the kids and it's a stone's throw from the zoo. But agreed, not best for fish tacos.
