Birthday coming up, unsure of whether to go upscale steakhouse (between Ruth's and La Boca) or something special (thinking Clancy's, Le Foret or Gautreau's). Not looking to spend TOO much

Any ideas welcome!

  1. My favorite is Clancy's but you can spend too much unless you are conservative. Emeril's is also fun for a celebration. In fact I think Galatoire's is the best place in NOLA to celebrate a BD. Good luck.

    1. How many ya got going? By your lonesome? fifty friends?

La Boca is not upscale, but it is very good. Le Foret is probably the most expensive on your list. Both the food and ambience are refined. Clancy's isn't close in either regard (apples/oranges). It's more of a neighborhood spot.. It has its following. I can take it or leave it. If you are interested in a lively spot with good food, Emeril's and Coquette (downstairs) will deliver. Upstairs at Coquette is quieter and can be romantic. Galatoire's is always fun. Herbsaint's is a good option as well.

        Happy Birthday!

Great analysis JB............But Clancy's walks circles around Herbsaint.

You leave it I will take it. When one of NOLA's most famous chefs says it's his favorite it's time to pay attention. Otherwise I like your choices. But Clancy's is in the same class with the OP's list. And you did not mention Gautreau's which I happen to like a lot.
