Good Shawarma and Shish Taouk

seulementmoi Apr 5, 2011 05:00 PM

Hi all -

Any recommendation for a good Shawarma? I've been to many "Middle Eastern" restaurants in the Bay Area to be served fake ones. Best one I've had so far was at Taboun. (average quality vs east coast)

Have you tried Oasis Market, Oakland?

I like Oasis. The flavors of their shawarma are similar to Truly Mediterranean in San Francisco (16th & Valencia).

I've tried Oasis and it was terrible :). Truly Mediterranean was ok and found the meat dry and flavorless. As of Sophia, their Shawarma was not a real Shawarma and way too salty but it was at their early stage (when they opened)

That's surprising. I've never had dry, flavorless meat @ TM, but I haven't eaten there in over a year.

And just to make sure . . . the Oasis you tried was the supermarket / deli on Telegraph, not the Oasis Grill near UC Berkeley?

A friend of mine raves about Old Jerusalem on Mission St. I haven't been, but they do have Shish Taouk on the menu.

Best one I've had is at The Mediterranean in the Park N Shop area in Concord. Haven't been there in a while (my travels don't take me over there very often anymore) but haven't had a bad one yet.
