Site of first date in 1991: Indian restaurant in New Haven, CT.

I'd like to surprise my husband with a trip back to the site of our first date, which was to a wonderful Indian restaurant in New Haven, CT. Unfortunately, I can't remember the name or exact location of the restaurant. Here's what I do remember: it was close to the Yale campus, good food, dark lighting / candles on tables, white tablecloths. I know there are many Indian restaurants in New Haven. But what about in the early 1990's? Can you help this nostalgic middle-age woman??

May be a fine restaurant, but it definitely wasn't around in 1991.

I agree with benbenberi that it is most likely the India Palace. It is dark with white tablecloths. Good food. The Royal is now a different Indian place that I have yet to try

I don't know about 1991, but there are several Indian restaurants on Howe St that have been there since at least 1992 - India Palace & Royal India. (Also Tandoor, at Howe & Chapel, but I imagine you'd have mentioned if the resto in question was in an old diner.) I'm guessing India Palace may be the one you mean - it's darker.

India palace was definitely there before 91. I ate there when I lived in NH. Could it be the oldest Indian restaurant in town?
