Must eats in Miami Beach?

I'm going to South Beach with some friends for a long weekend later this month and I want to round up some restaurants to try out while we're down there. We won't have a car, so staying in Miami Beach would be ideal. I've heard Joe's Stone Crabs is really great, so we'll probably have lunch or dinner there one night. I would also love to find a great Cuban sandwich and maybe Cuban food. Nothing fancy.

  1. I would go to Joes Crab for lunch and Spiga for dinner, they are both right in South Beach and both are close in. Don't have any Cuban recs, but I'm sure you can find some here on the board.

    1. Try la sandwicherie for a unique south beach lunch experience. Have a drink at the outside bar at smith and wollensky and enjoy the beauty of the point. For cuban sandwich try la playa on washington and 15th. For dinner in south beach just walk around lincoln rd. find a menu you feel like eating and people watch.

Honestly, I can't imagine a more dangerous piece of advice that "just walk around Lincoln Road find a menu you feel like eating". If you need any further evidence ->

There is a wealth of information on this board regarding South Beach eats if you do a little searching.

          Frod,
that was three years ago... lincoln has come pretty far since then.... Alta mare, rosa mexicano, meat market, baires grill, shake shack. Sushi samba is still good (expensive), tiramisu, spris are fare... and either way the point i was making was to people watch not really to dig in. (the guy reviewing enso was obviously pissed about getting screwed on the GC, no way he was gonna have a nice meal) ok ok the_state don't eat at ENSO.

          1. re: shwacooking

There are more bad places on lincoln rd than good. Not the best advice I ever heard.

            1. re: shwacooking

OP didn't say anything about people watching and this being Chowhound it is safe to assume he wants excellent food.

TP- I read nothing of the Douglas Rodriques joints, the menues look great is the food that bad?

              1. re: stuartlafonda

None of the Rodrigues places are non lincoln rd stuart. Not sure what you are referencing.

I have not been to ola in a while and ocean is sort of new and I have never been there. Ola had good ceviches and meatballs when I went but I found it to be a bit overpriced.

Just a general question about his places as I enjoyed Patria many years ago and he seems to get no love on this board.

              2. re: shwacooking

Several of those places were around three years ago and I'd agree most that you list are serviceable or better (I would definitely pass on Rosa Mexicano) - but for every restaurant you've mentioned, there are another 2 on Lincoln Road that are terrible. Those aren't great odds for just randomly picking a place. The point is, do your homework - and there is plenty of information on this board for South Beach eats.

                1. re: Frodnesor

I would side with those who think it is much easier to get a bad meal on Lincoln Road than a good one.

Can someone please provide an opinion on Baires Grill.

                    1. re: upupaway

Haven't been in a while. But my general feeling is it is not as good as it used to be when it was off lincoln.

          2. Can anyone recommend Bongo's? In South Beach?

Bongo's is not in south beach and is not recommended.

            2. No one can recommend Bongo's except for the Lario family.
