Lets say you were to make tuna salad ... but without the tuna?

What other types of fish could I substitute for tuna in whatever form of tuna salad that one makes?

Obviously, there is salmon.

And halibut would work as well, and perhaps even cod.

Any other types of fish one could use instead of tuna?

Would swordfish work?

Thoughts?

Fish that cooks up very dry and becomes similar in texture to cooked tuna is what would work best IMO. Swordfish, salmon, and marlin are the first that come to mind.

Is this an allergy to canned tuna, or why? I think I would use any mild cooked fish mixed with a can of sardines. None of the choices you listed interest me, if you want to make it taste like tuna salad.

I've used leftover cooked or smoked trout...it is way better than canned tuna. YUM! something firm, flaky, would work. the smoked white fish would work too. just dont use a soft fish. The halibut or cod may be too mild. If you are going for leftover grilled swordfish, make sure the rest of the salad ingredients are good quality and you will have a gourmet fish salad!

Shrimp salad is good, so is crab salad.

Were you thinking fresh or canned tuna? If canned, then canned sardines or mackerel or squid or oysters, etc.
