On the corner of Sherman Way and Wilbur Ave there is a strip mall that houses a 7/11 and various other businesses. A new addition there is a place called Pastry Land.

My mom and I stopped in Fri night right before they closed. The owners are a husband and wife team. The husband was there and he was just the nicest man and kept giving us free samples to try. And he was so proud of the foods and the fact that his wife makes everything by hand in the kitchen.

As it was near closing, the cases were almost empty, but we were able to try their eclairs, iced coffee and a small, quiche style pasty that had an almond filling.

The eclairs were divine. Pure heaven. The cream filling in the middle tasted like actual creamy filling, not a lard/sugar mix. They have a vanilla cream filling and a chocolate one. The chocolate one tastes like a really cold, creamy chocolate mousse. It is one of the best pastries I have ever had.

My mom loved the iced coffee. I don't like coffee, so I am just taking her word on it. The husband told us the wife makes the coffee also.

We went back on Saturday afternoon to try some of the stuff they were out of the night before. Because in addition to pastries, they also do hot rolls. Phyllo pockets stuffed with various ingredients. The bacon and egg roll was easily our favorite. It is half a hard boiled egg with a half slice of bacon wrapped around it. And that is encased in a lovely, flaky, non greasy phyllo.

Their pastries and pockets seem to range in price from 75 cents to $1.50. The pastries are not huge, which I really liked because it enabled me to order and try a few. These are 3 or 4 bite pastries. But those 3 or 4 bites are delightful.

They have only been open a few weeks. For now it is cash only, but the owner told us they will be ready to accept credit and debit cards in about 2 weeks.

They are not open in the am, but from 4pm-9pm M-F. On Saturday, they open at 11am. Not sure about Sun. I left their business card at home, but will post the phone number later if anyone wants to call to confirm they are open before going there.
