Fun restaurant near Fenway

I'm looking for a fun and "happening" restaurant/bar to hang out with friends the afternoon before a 7pm Sox game in May on a Friday. Price doesn't matter- just want good food with an energetic atmosphere. (Obviously something casual because we'll be dressed for the game.) Any suggestions??

I have enjoyed Island Creek, Eastern Standard, Petite Robert, and Basho. I also like Elephant Walk for Cambodian food and Taberna de Haro for authentic Spanish food. Both have strong wine selections. Taberna de Haro has the most extensive and well chosen Spanish wine list in Boston. They are a little longer walk from Fenway, but still in the neighborhood.

We ate at Remy's last summer and were pleasantly surprised by the menu and execution, which was definitely a cut above your usual bar food. AND they had Dogfish Head and Racer 5 IPAs on draught, yum! As mentioned above, however, wherever you choose, you need to get there early or make a reservation. I know that there are season ticket holders who have "season tickets" at Remy's, too!

Audubon Circle is my go to place for exactly this purpose. Great pub grub in a fun place thats not too much of a nut house. On comm ave just past the mass pike overpass.

Beacon Street, actually, for Audobon Circle.

An Tua Nua, across Beacon from there is decent, too.

An Tua Nua is our go to spot before games. Obviously the food isn't in the same league as Island Creek Oyster Bar or Eastern Standard, but they serve decent pub food and the service is speedy.

i worry that as more and more people call Audubon their go to place before games, I will have to find a pregame alternative......

Audubon is great and I frequent it myself, however with all of the recent openings (Citizen, Tasty Burger, Basho, Remy's, ICOB, etc.) there are more places than ever to pregame around Fenway. While the food might not be top notch at all of the places (e.g. Remy's), there are more places to meet before the games than ever with more opening every day. We were able to get a reservation at ICOB who are open for lunch tomorrow.

Citizen Public House is worth a look, the food is good I'm just not sure how the crowd will be as this is their first baseball season.

Eastern Standard is always a good bet for both atmosphere and food.

Places start filling up at 5PM, so make sure that wherever you chose, you get there real early. Or you'll end up at Subway or McDonalds.

Island Creek Oyster Bar. It's close, its fun, and the food is great. And every restaurant in the Kenmore square area is full of Sox gear on gamedays, even the nicer ones such as Petit Robert.
