Toca at the Ritz

Anyone eaten there yet? I have a dinner there on Thursday. Menu looks pretty good.

I have had lunch there a few times, but never dinner. The food is fine - nothing memorable, nothing amiss. I find it very "standard" and I struggle to recollect anything about the meals. There are many other "standard" restaurants at much lower prices. I would go to Bymark or Canoe instead.

Thanks but I was going specifically there for a purpose so Bymark or Canoe wasn't an option. I was simply asking for suggestions for TOCA.

Went here this past week and came away satifisfied but reluctant to go back.

The summary of the experience was: Food was good, just not good enough to justify a $300 bill (1 glass of wine per person)

As of now, I have placed it in the 'special occasino only' category.

There's quite a few threads on this restaurant already:

I'm not certain they've even done their grand-opening yet. They had only done there 'soft-opening' when I was there.

Confirmed as of yesterday: Soft-opening only. Grand-opening TBD.

Read Joanne Kates in today's Globe ... reflects the views of a number of people I know who have gone ... and why I am not running to try it out.

Whether there's been a grand opening or not, they've been open long enough to work out some of the obvious kinks ... like really, how do you only offer three cheeses per evening (and cold out of the cave at that) if you've made that kind of $ investment in a cheese cave?!

Some of the service issues are typical of a new place, but I had a very negative service issue with the hotel that IMO was not handled at all well, which suggests to me that they have work to do in order to live up to the Ritz brand.
