One day - 2 meals - in San Diego

Hi SD Hounds,

I'll be in town for a conference (the National Association of Professional Organizers) and have a half-day freee before it begins.

Would love recommendations for lunch and dinner - and some sight-seeing ideas (I think I'll skip the Zoo - is that heretical?)

I'm staying at the Town & County Resort - don't have a car but they say they are on the trolley line.

No particular requirements - just looking for great food that's convenient to sites. Not looking to spend top dollar.

  1. Welcome to SD! You are actually a little limited with just the trolley for transportation (it doesn't go near the beach) but you should be able to have a great day anyway.

I would probably recommend lunch / sightseeing in Old Town. I always take visitors there and it is kind of fun to walk around. I like Old Town Mexican Cafe for authentic Mexican but you really can't go wrong with any of the restaurants around there.

For dinner, you will want to head either to Little Italy or downtown. Maybe check out Indigo Grill, Craft + Commerce, or Cafe Zucchero in Little Italy. Or downtown, Searsucker or maybe Blue Point Coastal Cuisine for seafood. If you go downtown, have a drink at Noble Experiment speakeasy before dinner, it's a cool experience.

If you can, take a taxi over to Coronado and walk around the Hotel Del Coronado, or go to La Jolla Cove and see the seals (if they are there) and walk around the shops. If you come to San Diego, you really need to see the beach!

    Enjoy your trip.
