Chowhound Recipes: Nutritional Stats?

This is probably going to get moved to 'Site Talk,' but I just wondered if I am the only one that is a bit shocked that Chowhound does not include the nutritional info for their recipes...

I know there are tons of sites that will calculate it for you; it just seems odd that lesser caliber sites have the nutritional info--whereas Chowhound does not list it with their recipes.

Or perhaps, it is there, buried somewhere? If I am missing the magic button that displays the stats of recipes, please let me know. Perhaps, it is that being mindful of nutrition is anti-Chowhound?--but after posting here for sometime and reading about how most CHers have their own firm philosophy about what they eat and do not eat, I feel that I cannot be the only member who might be interested in having the stats more readily available while using the recipes...

Ideas as to why stats are not listed on Chowhound? Would it be antithetical to the site?

  1. On the Chowhound site (instead of the Chow side) the content is all "user" generated. The site hosts you and all the other hounds who come together to talk about cooking and recipes. So the nutritional information is either provided by each hound, (assuming it's available) or not, as the case may be.

    1. Did you mean the Chow recipes?

Yes, I did mean the Chow recipes. And it makes 'some' sense that there isn't info listed for recipes because it is generated by users... but I am still surprised because a lot of other sites--that have recipes submitted by users--still have the info.

I wish they had them too.

It would be difficult, if not impossible, to generate nutritional stats about recipes entered on the Home Cooking board as that is a freeform entry field.

However, as you mentioned, other sites are able to calculate stats as users enter them. It would seem this could be added when posters us the add a recipe feature. It would be nice to have.
