Baking fail: Tunnel of Fudge Cake

This Cook's Country recipe didn't work for me at all! The cake came out underdone, even after baking it longer (and cutting the recipe down by 20 percent to make up for having a smaller pan) than the 45 minutes it called for. I won't be bringing it to a potluck tonight after all, boo-hoo! Any suggestions, other than baking it longer next time? Has anyone else had success with this? In retrospect, 45 minutes (at 350 F) seems like an absurdly low amount of time to bake a cake of this size.

  1. this is one of my absolute favorite cakes ever!! i really find this recipe does the historic one justice. i have made it a couple of times, following the recipe exactly, and it has turned out perfect. they still run the CC episode on occasion. may be worth investing in the proper bundt pan size. i do recall it took some extra time, but keep an eye on it so not to overbake. you want it just starting to pull away from the sides. good luck! i attached a photo below.

      I will have to do that -- I'll try it again sometime after I find a good bundt pan and bake it just exactly as the recipe specifies.

    2. Ohhh, that is a bummer! Sorry to hear.... I did a bit of research on the tunnel of fudge cake and ended up making this one, which is the original : . An oldie but goodie...careful not to can't use the traditional testing, because of the center. Have made it several times since ... it is a real winner!! It's definitely worth trying again!
