Picky eater for California Wine Country

Greetings All

We are looking for a place to have dinner in Napa/Sonoma/Yountville area for our anniversary willing to extend area. Hubby is an extremely pick eater.

We already have reservations one night at Bistro Don Giovanni which we love, also Bottega (great on our last visit) Looking for a restaurant suggestion that is NOT French (Hubby hates french food and was not happy at Bouchon), and must have options other than Pork or Shellfish.

Basically Steak, Chicken, or Fish.

Any suggestions? Getting a little tired of Italian.

  1. Redd is fully Californian, is in Yountville, is well regarded, and has a big, fat steak on the menu.

A few other places you'd normally get sent, like Martini House, have closed, so go to Redd.

Redd is fantastic, but I would never be able to take any of the picky eaters in my family there... Every dish has something unusual that they wouldn't eat.
My parents both enjoyed Mustards Grill a few years... and if my Dad can find something to eat, anyone can.

Good point about Mustards - it is fairly consistent with huge slabs of grilled meat. I always had problems with their pricing; $25 for calves liver is just over-the-top for me.

I guess I'm used to prices being that high in wine country...
I got the calves liver that time, and it was just ok... But with picky eaters in tow, eating ok food is the norm. For some reason, it is hard to find great food that is completely unadventurous.
Hmm...I guess I am picky also, but in a completely different way :)

    2. Was going to suggest Bouchon for the steak frites, but see that you've already been and say no French. I assume picky eaters like steak and french fries - I did when I was picky! Anyway, Redd seems a nice choice. How nice do you want to go? In the nice casual range, there are probably more options.

      1. Cole's Chophouse for a great steak.
        Go Fish for freat fish.
Ad Hoc for great fried chicken on Monday nights.

        1. Thanks for the suggestions all! I will show my husband the menu's and let you know which one he picks!

BTW it was the Steak Frites that he hated at Bouchon!

          1. For picky eaters two of my go to spots are The Rutherford Grill, though I've only eaten lunches there-but I imagine dinner would be equally enjoyable and Cindy's Back Street Grill in St. Helena.

We have had lunch at Rutherford Grill, it was good but more of a lunch place for us.

              Has anyone tried Bardessono? Thoughts?
