Rita's Water Ice at Stenton & Mt Pleasant in Mt Airy Gone?

  • 8

I drove past today and saw that the place has a fresh coat of paint but in very unfamiliar colors. And I didn't see the Rita's sign either. Are they gone?

  1. I don't know about that one, but the location on Willow Grove Avenue in Wyndmoor is undergoing the same change. Odd.

    1. There's a sign that reads "Rocco's Italian Ice coming soon". I don't know this Rocco and I want my Rita's BACK!

I saw the same sign at a few other Rita's locations in the nearby area. Aside from the Stenton and Mt. Pleasant one I also saw the "Rocco's coming soon" sign at the Wyndmoor Rita's on Willow Grove Ave.

      2. I have been to the Rocco's Italian Ice on Hunting Park Ave and let me tell you - it is WAY better than Rita's.

            In what regard?

I'm not crazy about Rita's either ... their flavorings are way too sweet and syrupy and there is rarely ever real fruit pieces in their ice. I think they used to be much better about 10 years ago when they actually used real fruit. I do like their vanilla custard quite a bit. I'm competely spoiled by my local water ice place, Yardley Ice House. Delicious fresh flavors with real fruit and fresh ingredients, and yummy cream ices.

Maybe Rocco's will be good :)

          2. I'm not anti-Rita's, mostly because I love pretty much all water ice.
But can't they just call it "lemon"?
Alex's lemonade, fine. It's done great work. But lemon isn't *a* water ice flavor, it's *the* water ice flavor.
