i was excited to try this new West End establishment. There is not much in the way of good Italian in this town. There still isn't. What a letdown. My family thought it was worse than Olive Garden. We will never go back. The menu is limited and the recipes are pathetic. I had the Chicken Parm. It was barely recognizable. I don't think it will last as long as Ringo did.

  1. The Shops at the West End seem to have an interesting view of restaurants. The go for concept more than quality. It's no surprise Crave does well there - a place to be seen. Mediocre food at moderately high prices, but you can also get reasonably priced there. But not worth the food's quality. Ringo was an interesting concept, but they couldn't pull it off. Sauce was not good. I'm not sure anything truly good will ever come to Shops at the West End.

On the other hand, I've heard very good things about Wok in the Park, also in SLP. Can anyone confirm?

Been to Wok in the Park twice, it's as good as Thanh Do in many ways, better in some ways. And if you are lucky, someone in the dining room will have a birthday so the staff (including the chef) sings Happy Birthday... normally who cares, but they have created a beautiful harmony unlike any I've heard before. Lovely.

I still go to Thanh Do as well, but like a good Minnesotan, when at one I pretend I don't go to the other (not that anyone asks), since I've heard there are two restos due to a family feud.

    2. I ate there this week with my family. The gnocci was terrible. The roast chicken was not bad, but $35 for half a chicken?

Too bad, because the inside of this place was great and the service was good.

      1. Went Friday with two friends before seeing a movie. I had heard some positive things but I would say we were all pretty underwhelmed by the food. I had the porchetta dish - not good. One friend had the roast chicken and he wasn't impressed either. Visually the restaurant looks good but food didn't do it for me. Probably should have tried a pasta but based on other comments here, doesn't sound like I missed anything. Won't be back.
Looking forward to Little Szechuan opening for a palatable option in West End.

The sad part is that JP is a terrific chef. I loved his resto on Lyndale. This just not of the same caliber at all.
