La Mariana Rode Out The Wave

I've seen postings in various paces that Honolulu's unique tiki restaurant, La Mariana was seriously damaged by the Tsunami in March. While several of the adjacent docks were heavily damaged, the restaurant and bar remain undamaged and are open.

as i'm sure you know, the food is just OK, but it is a 'cultural experience', true tiki.

You know, sometimes there are elements, that transcend just the food, though that IS what we're here for.

Mahalo for the info, and glad to hear it. Not familiar with this restaurant, but next trip, we WILL include it. Hey, I come from a time, when "tiki-chic" was the thing, so I should enjoy.

you just know the Howells and the Professor are going to come thru the door at any minute. The food is not bad, but it is definitely not four stars, and yes... sometimes its about more than food. Sadly the former owner has passed away. She used to visit every table to make sure they were enjoying their meal, in her later years she needed an assistant to help her around, but she was so warm and gracious. Still it is a unique dining experience.

and the map that shows to the right is not correct. if you look carefully you will see an unlabeled roadway just above the top of the "A" in the red circle. the road runs to the left then turns to the right. just past that bend on that side road is La Mariana.

              Hey K-man:

Had lunch there the other day, kind of marginal.

Hope yesterdays excitement (Car Jack= Traffic Blocked) didn't interfere with your dinner plans.

I probably should have driven to Nico's instead.

Sorry to be the bearer of bad news. I still love the place but don't recommend eating there. BTW: Indigo has really slipped also. Better to go to EPIC up the street. Really good NZ Salmon , etc.
