Golden House Chinese Food vs. C'est Bon---how do these compare?

Ediblethoughts Apr 1, 2011 07:34 PM

Let me preface by saying I like C'est Bon quite a bit but would like to try a place I haven't yet tried. So is GH as good as CB (particuarly for veg or seafood)?

Try the Lai Wah Heen or Lai Toh Heen for comparison

That's not a particularly useful comparison. I'm pretty sure that the OP is fully aware that C'est Bon and GH are inexpensive Canadian Chinese food joints. But sometimes you want that stuff delivered to your house for dinner. LWH and C'est Bon both have their places in my chow universe, but I would never try and compare the two. To the OP, unfortunately, I've never tried GH, so can't help with your comparison.

The OP wants to try a new place he/she has not yet tried. LTH and LWH are benchmarks for Chinese food (and are in the area), regardless of other options like GH. You've stated before that "C'est Bon is my staple Chinese delivery option" so I understand why *you* want delivery from Canadian Chinese food joints and would never compare with LTH/LWH. The OP did not state his/her comparison criteria. So let's let the OP decide whether or not these are particularly useful comparisons or information, instead of presuming to know what the OP is fully aware of or his/her underlying needs are.

I've been to both LWH and LTH and I just wasn't that impressed and cost was only a partial deciding factor. I know it's considered odd to most CHers but I generally prefer the more "basic" huge menu Chinese restaurant. (I admit, I've only been to LWH for brunch--it's inconvenient to go there for dinner---LTH I've done for dinner.)

All that said, I did just check out LTH's menu (haven't been there for several years) and maybe it is a thought to go back and try it out. I sometimes though want the 'simple" Chinese food experience and that's definitely not LTH.

Since no one's posted info on Golden House yet, here's a user review on it.

Thanks. It's an excellent read. I like this quote: "excellence and authenticity are independent variables that can be achieved separately" which I'm in total agreement.

Thanks for posting that. Seems like enough encouragement for me to try it out some time.

High brow or low brow, as long as it's tasty, it's all chow to me. :)

Just ordered from the Yonge/Eg C'est Bon last night. Sent it back. What else can I say? Chicken in a black bean sauce was 1) orange 2) had more corn/peppers/celery than chicken 3) was ORANGE! Can someone please recommend GOOD Chinese take-out/delivery? Many thanks in advance....
