Hungry Mother Recommendations

Me and hubby are going for the first time this weekend. I tried to look for recent posts, but really didn't see any. It looks like we mustn't skip dessert, but wanted to see if anyone had gone recently and could recomment any dishes as must try.

Thanks for your help!

This is probably too late for your visit! But we just went for my birthday last weekend. I had the sea bass, which was really well cooked and flavorful. The roast chicken was tender and moist and came with excellent little potato gnocchi and mushrooms. The steak frites was a huge hit; the only snag is that when ordering, the waiter said "We're cooking it medium-rare today, is that okay?" It was, but if you want a choice, know that you might not get one.

My favorite part of the meal was actually a side dish of cornbread! It's cooked in a cast-iron skillet and served saturated with melted sorghum butter.

For dessert, a coconut cake with chocolate icing, coconut ice cream, and blood-orange marmalade. Delicious but the cake was drier than I prefer. The cookie of the day was a rosemary-lemon shortbread dusted in powdered sugar, which was well-balanced.

Thanks. We just went last night. Good cocktail. I got a citrusy one which had a nice crisp fresh taste. Not too sweet. We ended up getting the deviled eggs and duck confit which were specials. Yum. I wanted to order more of the eggs right away. :) Our mains were the cornmeal crusted catfish, and the pork shoulder. Both were very tasty. The catfish was fantastic. Perfectly cooked and over rice with tasty bits of sausage. We also got the cornbread, and I'm not sure how we managed to eat everythign but we did. And had room for the mint and whitechocolate semi-freddo, which I really liked with the fresh minty tasty and bits of crunch white chocolate, but my hubby didn't like the bits of mint in it as much as it did. Really good food. I'm glad we finally got to try it. Next time hopefully we'll get to try more of the menu.

      Thanks for all the help.

Oh, yes! Forgot to mention those amazing deviled eggs. The cornmeal catfish is supposed to be a specialty of theirs, so I'm glad you got to try it. They do such an amazing job over there. And the service was fantastic, too.

the pork and beans (changed to a pork cassoulet last few times we went) is my fave. catfish is great as is the shrimp n grits. a DC got the chicken and "dumplings" (they were gnocchi), had a taste, very good. its a small menu and they do everything well. cornbread, greens, deviled eggs, desserts (taza cupcake!) all delish. The only thing Ive not liked there is the Delmonico steak. the DC ordered it and not that it was bad, just wasnt impressed. fwiw, it was pretty straight fwd steak and potatoes. ok in that sense but nothing "special".

Thanks for the advice. Looks like all of the choices are good choices. I'm so glad we finally get to try. :)

I've never not liked anything I've had there. Had grilled octopus and an oyster po' boy last time, both specials, both delicious. The pork shoulder is probably my favorite entree. And don't skip cornbread or cocktails.
