nashville restaurants on a budget

  • 2

Hi everyone!
I'm visiting my brother, a student at Vandy, for the next 24 hours. I wanted to go out to a nice and fun dinner with him somewhere in the Nashville area tonight. We are both students (I'm in medical school) so we are on a budget of less than $35/ person. For instance I looked at Margot and Watermark and the entrees are a bit pricey for us, although they both looked delicious! We are both from New York City and love food, so we are not afraid of something new and different! Let me know what you think, I'm open to any and all suggestions. Thanks!

  1. Your brother has no recommendations? I'd hesitate to recommend things that he already knows and has decided against. So, I'll break out of the Vanderbilt-area bubble a bit ...

Also in East Nashville is Eastland Cafe. A little cheaper than Margot, more attractive (I think), excellent food and chef. In the Berry Hill / 100 Oaks area is Yellow Porch, another small bistro-type restaurant. It may be too expensive, but look at ChaChah on Belmont -- owner/chef is a former Top Chef contestant. He owns another, much campier restaurant called Suzy Wong's House of Yum on Church that would be fun. Near Vanderbilt on West End is an excellent vegetarian Indian restaurant called The Woodlands. On White Bridge Rd in West Nashville is Porta Via, a VERY reasonably priced Italian place that has had its pizza certified by the Neapolitan pizza authority, I forget the name. Also incredibly good pasta, cheap wine, good gelato. THAT'S going to be your best bargain.

Many other possibilities, but those are just the ones off the top of my head.

In all cases I would recommend making reservations -- it's a busy week in Nashville in terms of events that are drawing outsiders to town. Lots of places may be booked up.

    1. J Alexander's
      Rumba
      Bricktop's

Just to a name a few that would fit your budget.
