Good Hangs Near Tips and Howlin Wolf

I'm coming with a large group for JazzFest and am looking for places for dinner/drinks before the shows. Preferably reasonably priced and near the venues.

Thanks!

Ernst Cafe is a hundred year old neat bar a few blocks from HW on S Peters. They are non smoking and have boiled crawfish as well as outdoor tables. Lucy's is around the corner and two blocks N.

    Ernst Cafe @ 600 South Peters Street, New Orleans, LA 504 - 525 - 8544. http://ernstcafe.net/

      How large a group?

Near Tip's - There are several bars within walking distance. Tchoup 45 is the closest, just a block away. Also close is Ms. Mae's at the corner of Napoleon and Magazine. A bit further down Magazine you have the Brothers Three (jukebox has both kinds of music) and the Buddha Belly, and three more blocks down Magazine is Le Bon Temps. F&M's and Grits are about 5 blocks away down Tchoupitoulas. For food, there's Dick & Jenny's one block from Tip's, but they don't take reservations during Jazz Fest so you'd want to get there plenty early. There are many cheap places on Magazine St. within easy walking distance. Off the top of my head: New York Pizza, Courtyard Grill (Turkish/Middle Eastern), Sukho Thai, Casamento's (oysters etc.) Theo's Pizza, Nirvana (Indian), Mona's (Middle Eastern), and Ignatius (New Orleans). There are also several higher end places. These are all on Google maps if you go out a bit from Tip's.

Thanks for the great info. We are going to be between 5-10 people. New Orleans/Creole with beer is perfect. Casamento's and Ignatius sound interesting.

Howlin' Wolf has a laid-back bar on the other side, I really liked it, but it might be kind of crazy during JazzFest, too. Around there is Lucy's Retired Surfer Bar, and I think there's another bar kitty-corner from that, can't remember the name. If you want to hang with the college kids, Red Eye is quite close too!

That's Vic's Kangaroo Cafe - probably too small for this group. Lucy's has lots of space.

I second 45 Tchoup! They cater to the pre- and post-Tips crowd, being just a block or so away.
