Pre-dinner Cocktails in Asheville?

Hi again,

We have reservations at The Admiral on Saturday at 9:30. Where should we go for pre-dinner drinks (beer and cocktails) and maybe a small bite?

Sante Wine Bar has been recommended, but we are not as into wine.
Thanks!

Sky Club at sunset (battery park 6,7,8 floor)
Grove Park Inn (again, at sunset...a good chance to see the place without have to eat food there)

Miss Piggy, what is now on the corner of battery and haywood?

totally agree with those two - we were downtown Friday and Sky Club appeared to be open (saw what looked like a fire pit going on the top level, at least I hope it was a fire pit!). I wasn't sure if it was too early in the season for them to be open. But, the view there at sunset is fantastic and the drink prices aren't too bad. The weather is supposed to be great on Saturday, so I would imagine it would be open. 180 view of mountains with the sun going down behind, just ignore the parking garage in front of you... lol And I did discover last year that you can make reservations for a table. good to know. Here's a link to more info and the phone number.

And we do the same thing with Grove Park. Great view without having to pay for (or eat) the subpar food. drinks can be pricey at GP, so just be aware. But, it's a great atmosphere and an amazing building (the old part anyway).

If you like beer, agree with Miss Piggy's A'ville recs. And yes, don't fill up on too much beer!!

oh, and we walked by the old Flying Frog and nothing yet. Just a For Lease sign. Hope something good goes in there. It's prime real estate, especially for the summer.

Zambra is great for drinks, Sazerac too. Both downtown though...Admiral is in West Asheville. If you like beer, the patio at UJ in West Asheville could be OK, but I'd pick Jack of the Wood, Thirsty Monk or LAB (all downtown) before that. Don't eat before the Admiral! You'll want to eat everything there!
