went there this saturday after the GR2 opening. thought it was okay. it is to hot pot what din tai fung is to xiao long bao. a little too "clean tasting" or watered dowdn. the broth tasted heavy on msg and the hot side was barely spicy. i gotta try deerfield garden next time. the green scallion pancakes were good though.

anyone ever eaten mala huo guo in sichuan? where they have the hard white disc of oil/fat that melts into the soup, and then each individual item is skewered and costs only a couple mao? that shit is crazy!

or the bald head spicy crab???? whew! shit fire for weeks after that one!

little sheep isn't too bad, but i prefer mon land hot pot. flavors seem that much richer, also more variety in the selection. mon land has better 'pink sauce' (fu yue?) as a condiment to accompany the lamb after you've cooked it. less watered down. mm just thinking about it is making me hungry again.

woah! my first experience with little sheep was in a small sleepy village in eastern china several years ago. who knew that it would find its way to Los Angeles.

but i think i've tried the sichuan thing you're talking about. i had huo guo in all its crazy forms in china, but my students (i was teaching english) agreed that little sheep was china's best.
