A Croissant afternoon in Outremont area
My wife and I were in the area yesterday and we had 1 croissant and 1 chocolatine from each places.
Our verdict is that we preferred Mamie Clafoutis over Premiere moisson by and extreme margin. Mamie Clafoutis was fresh and tasty and so was the chocolatine.

The Premiere moisson croissant seemed to be have been baked a while ago and the texture was hard. The chocolatine also was hard and the chocolate in it was solid liek a bar. At 2$ a piece I was expecting a better product.
What is, in hours, the shelf life of a croissant? I think they should bake batches accordingly so they always have freshness ready to be served. The staff looked young and inexperienced. But they were smiling all the time.

Is it that premiere moisson in now a factory and mamie is still artisanal
Out of the way (St Laurent near Beaubien) but out of this world.......if you like the Italian croissant - cornetto - this is the place to go. They tend to be less crispy and flaky- softer and denser. Absolutely heavenly cornettos with fillings (chocolate hazelnut, ricotta, almond) and I just tried their Zepolis (essentially a fluffy sugar donut cut in half and filled with a delicious ricotta mixture). There are only 3-4 tables but its worth the detour for the authentic taste of Italy.
Other notable croissants in the Outremont/Mile End area:
De La Gascogne
+ great fluffy/crispy butter croissants from this high-end grocery shop and bakery. (it is a small montreal franchise.)
+ for my money the best croissants and amandines in Montreal. Much smaller than some other places - just these little morsels of delicious balanced buttery yum. Frequently sell out over the course of the day.
+ croissants aren't exceptional, but truly delicious in their Sandwich Bonjour, with cheese and egg and ham.
I do find the pastries fresh at mama cloufoutis, I enjoy the cheese croissants and now they have a special on maple sugar pastries, tried the rouli a l erable and it was very good. I think you are right about mamie remaining artisanal, it is great to see them preparing pastries in front of your eyes
