Has anyone been to Royal beef on the danforth lately? I used to shop their all the time and had stayed away lately as I found that the quality and servcice of their meat wasn't worth the trip, but I was in the neighborhood and thought I'd go in a and get a steak and I have to say I was very impressed. They have a new head butcher Paul, who used to be the head butcher at the Healthy Butcher and he has certainly transformed the place. All kinds of new products from berkshire pork, to local hormone free chicken and still a great selection of beef. Even the sausage selection has changed from simple italian sausages too a varietey of different options including chicken and lamb sausages. I bought some pork and a dry aged rib eye steak, and was very impressed with both, Paul suggested a squeeze of lemon on the pork chop right before cooking and it really brought out the flavour of the meat. I didnt' have a chance to try any of the other new offerings has anyone had a chance to try his new sausages or chicken or anything, I think I'll be going back again next week, I'm so happy to have a good butcher in the east end again. I strongly suggest that any meat lover check this place out .

Well, that is great news! Right around the corner from me, and they have done such a good job in expanding their wares in other departments that it's great to see the meat getting exciting again!

Please tell me Carmen is still there!
Royal Beef has been a staple for our family. No, we have not been in a couple of months because we have not been BBQ'ing all that much.
They had some wonderful seasoned beef kabobs that I hope they bring back. The thing with Royal Beef was not only the good quality Black Angus beef, but the attention to aging the beef. The personal touch was , and is, important.

Great news! And how are the prices? Health Butcher was a wallet cleanser when I went :) albeit a high quality and very tasty one.

Yes it was the berkshire pork that I tried and they were great, price seemed okay to me under $15 for 2 thick cut chops, more than enough to feed two people, the steaks were reasonably priced as well for dry aged rib eye. 14 and change per pound I think I paid. quite a bit less than I have seen at other shops selling a similar product. Didn't check the prices on much else but everyone in the store was leaving with chickens so I'm assuming they are priced well too.

I spent $70 on a big hunk of beef to roast there a few years ago for my mother's birthday, it was enough for 7 people and leftovers and it was one yummy piece of meat. I would have gone back there more often if I could afford it, now that I got more cash flow I think I'll go check it out again.

I haven't been over there for quite awhile as the parking is a hassle. Used to get great meat from Paul. Is carmen still there?

Parking has never been a hassle. I've always been able to find parking within a one or two minute walk, is that close enough?

Paul Estrela had great meat and service. I never found it the same after. They had one guy right after Paul that I never really took a liking to. So I slowly stopped going as I can walk to other places in my area.

Yeah...I didn't warm to that guy either. That was around when I stopped going. Paul was so great and I loved to hear he and Carmen banter back and forth. I had some great prime ribs from him.

Well, we have been going back for a while now as we needed a nice tritip :)
A couple of weeks ago they had some awesome chicken sausages that were to die for. This week we scored on some burgers that were labelled: Steak, Cheese and Chipotle burger. They were also awesome. ALL made on the premises. It's great to see that they are pushing the envelope a bit now. Quality of the meat, in my opinion, is back up there. Good to see Carmen still behind the counter.

Wow, ditto on that guy! He was pretty miserable. I thought it was just us so kind of good to know we were not alone.
