hoping to find some oysters and steamers near Parsippany. Casual, tavern spot would be perfect.

I haven't been there since they re-opened, but Bentlee's in Mountain Lakes has a raw bar, like their predecessor, South City Grill.

      I agree with Yellowmix.

The Godfather in East Hanover has some of the freshest oysters this side of Tracks Oyster bar in NYC Penn Station. Matter of fact, all of the food here is very good. Don't be fooled by the strip mall its in, its very good.

In Parsippany, Mount Holleran Towne Tavern (off Rt 46) has 24 steamers for $10, served with drawn butter. No oysters, though. Casual setting, nice large rustic bar, dining area. Good drink options.

In East Hanover, Godfather Pizzeria (on Rt 10) has a half-dozen oysters (I think they're Beausolei) for $5.95 for Happy Hour. Good beer and drinks, business casual feel, modern bar.

Pub 199 has good steamers but no oysters. Skip the steak. It is cash only.

There is also the Copeland in Morristown, upscale but good oyster selection and full raw bar.

In that general area, I usually stop by Legal Sea Foods at the Short Hills Mall. Always several varieties of oysters, and my experience is that their steamed shellfish is always perfectly cooked. Depending on your starting point in Parsippany, it could be a quick 15 minutes down I-287 to Rt 24 to JFK Parkway. Eat at the bar. They have a good selection of beers on tap and wines by the glass. But beware the crowds on the weekends around lunch and dinner times.
