City Paper Best of DC

  • 6

Gasping at the City paper's pick of the "Best" food places.
Then thought, maybe it's me, but I guess many folks voted and they just went with it.
If you read it, what say you about their picks?
Same, or about as handy as Washingtonian magizine's picks?

  1. I think the City Paper comes from a young perspective, not that it is a negative, but possibly that more expensive places might not be fully considered.

I thought that too, but I was wondering, even if you left places like Komi off the list, would you still say Proof is the best in DC?

Well, she states her criteria right in the article - it's accessable. Considering the source and audience, I won't quibble with it. If this was the WAPO, that would be another story though.

If you take the 4-star, expense account places (Komi, Citronelle, Eve, etc.) off the list, which their description seems to indicate they have done, I'd certainly say that Proof has a compelling argument for the best of the rest.

I have to agree with you. I've never eaten there without being head over heels. I'll never forget the time I had dinner at the bar with a friend and ordered the tofu napoleon. It was so wonderful we fought over it, and the two men at the bar next to us went ahead and ordered two on their own, because the smell was so incredible.

Thanks. My question was an honest one as, for a variety of reasons, I've never made it to Proof, but I guess I should try harder.
