Fresh Oysters in or near Ft Walton Beach?

Hi al!

My mom and dad are on their way to Ft. Walton Beach right now, and don't want to get stuck eating oysters that have been flown in from somewhere else. Any recommendations for good, fresh, raw oysters in Ft. Walton Beach?

Thanks!

I'm not an oyster person so can't give specific recs, but I really would be surprised if any of the local restaurants ordered from afar when they can get the well-regarded Apalachicola Bay oysters from just down the coastline for a reasonable price.. (about 90% of the oysters sold in Florida come from there)

Tell your folks to look at the restaurant forum on www.sowal.com.

We didn't eat any raw oysters this year, but there are several reliable choices, including Hurricane Oyster Bar down 30A, 37 Logan Lane, 231.0787, Nick's (both in the sticks, 7585 Hwy 20, Basin Bayou, Freeport, 835-2222, and recently re-opened on 30A), and in Destin (closest to Fort Walton Beach), Boathouse Oyster Bar, 288 Harbor Blvd, Destin, FL 32541, 850-837-3645.

Thanks! I saw the Boathouse, and glad to see you give it a good word. I think the other two might be a little too far for them (I think they're staying in Navarre....) What about Stinky's? Or High Tide? Good or no? They'll want a couple of places to go. Thanks, Nancy!
