  1. Ha, I am considering buying this because I think there was past mention of this place here before/and recommendations... But, hopefully they are able to keep up with demand and there is plenty of product available. I am curious how their "Catered" items are... Sounds like they have a lot more variety of stuff... Meat pies, etc.. Anyone have experience with them in general and in particular the other items?

I quite like medium rare. I haven't tried too many of their prepared foods but the meat has always been great. In particular they have great creative sausage .

Hi, First time poster here. I've only been twice but I have to say I've left both times quite satisfied. I too echo bunnylcious comments about their meat. They do have a vast frozen section. I recall their tourtiere pie being close to $20. I've been anticipting a group buy from them for sometime, but am a little hesitant based on what's gone on with the infamous The Butchers.

I just recently found out about Frank's (the owner and head butcher) passing. I was both stunned and saddened by the news. His store became my go to butcher shop and I never left disappointed. Frank really cared about his customers. I never had the need nor desire to patronize another shop. Frank, Next time I fire up the BBQ, I'll be thinking about you. RIP

Oh, that is sad news. Just read he was in his 30s... yikes...I heard good things about him. I still haven't gotten in to the store to use the vouchers I bought (from above deal back in March). By co-incidence to you bumping up this thread though there is a deal on Everybody buys today. $10 and you can get $200 of meat for $90... so, about 50% off.

I don't know what to make of this new deal. I've haven't been in the shop since Canada Day long weekend, so I don't know what has changed since Frank's passing. It would be hard to imagine nothing has changed. Obviously when a proprietor of a business passes away you expect some things to change. Also this deal is Butcher-esque discount wise. I think I'll sit this one out.

My wife and I have been purchasing all our meat at Medium Rare since they open. I too was concerned that things would change and not for the better. Happily they have recipes that Frank made for everything and they continue to follow both the recipes and methodology so little has changed. Cooking is not the same as baking, but food cost is food cost, and nothing beats following a recipe to help control food cost.

I don’t purchase much prepared foods except for a meat pie or when I’m feeling lazy. But since opening Medium Rare has changed the Chef/cook and what little I have tasted and see him preparing in the back, he is very good.

The new butcher has not only followed in Franks footsteps, he has also added some of his own style. More is generally better and despite Frank’s untimely passing, Medium Rare is still one of the best Butchers/Food stuff place imho.

My concerns and fears were totally unfounded. I've been back many times since my post and it's business as usual despite Frank's passing.

Coming from a small business background, I feel it's important to support small businesses as much as possible. Even if it means spending more money.

Re: prepared foods: Thus far I have only tried their Tourtiere pie which I spit with my grandfather. We both liked it! On my last shopping trip I wanted to get another one but they were sold-out, so I had to settle for the mini ones.

I will continue to support Medium Rare and I hope they keep on flourishing. IMHO, they are the best of the west. Hands down!!!
