Dinner Near Market Street East Train Station
I have been reading the threads looking for a dinner spot this Friday. I have NO sense of direction and at this point I feel I need input from the Hounds. Then I will attempt to figure out the whole train thing!
Headed to a concert at 8:00 at Wells Fargo Center. We plan to take the train into Center City from Ambler. We want to have a nice dinner then we need to take the next train to the Center. We are up for any type of cuisine, with the exception of steak houses, preferably not a BYOB. Thanks!
I agree with that the 13th st corridor is a great mini restaurant row and has fantastic choices. Here are some of them (non-BYO):
They all have good websites, so you can peruse at your leisure. A place called "The Corner" just opened as well.
13th st is a good option because it it one block from broad st - this is where you pick up the subway to the Center, and about 4-6 blocks from either Suburban Station or Market East.
I recommend a reservation for all of these places by the way.
Once you pick a place, Google maps should have all points on the map (including the train stops).
Barbuzzo over El Vez for sure.
Are you going to park in Center City and then park again at the Center? That's going to be expensive, and annoying, for sure. A modest proposal: park on the street for free down near East Passyunk, eat somewhere delicious like Le Virtu, Fond, or South Philly Tap Room, then take the Subway from there to the Center. It's pretty hard to mess up, it only runs two directions.
My way of dealing with parking is to park at the lot on 15th opposite GSK. You see it just as you turn onto 15th from 676. $5.00 to park after six and on weekends. And within a reasonable walk over to restaurant row behind city hall. Save money.. use the Broad Street line and you dont have to deal with on street parking.
First of all you dont have to get off at Market East. You could get off at Suburban Station instead, and you could either go to any one of a number of restaurants on 13th street (Barbuzzo, Zavino, El Vez, ) or you could continue on towards South Philadelphia on the Broad Street Line.
South Philly Tap Room is close to the 15th and Mifflin stop.. and has great food. Or you could venture into South Philly.
