Good pubs near Bank-Monument station for tomorrow nite? [London]

myturkishjoys Mar 23, 2011 04:13 AM

Greetings! I'm traveling to London for the first time today. My husband is working in the local office there tomorrow so we are meeting his London colleagues after work tomorrow near the Bank-Monument stations for drinks and food. Because I am a huge foodie, I had selected several pubs nearby: The Princess of Shoreditch, Hawksmoor and Boundary based on their food menus and reviews I found here.

However, the local guys have replied back they don't want to go to any of those places b/c they aren't within walking distance. I guess 1 mile is too far for them to walk! I'm a bit angry, and now am reaching out to the board for any suggestions in Bank-Monument vicinity. I'd heard there's not a lot of good options in "The City" section. I don't want to end up in some random place eating crap food during my first trip to London.

I'd appreciate any suggestions. Thanks!

Sorry.....Only just seen this, about 2 hours before you kick off.

I work right next door to Monument Tube so I know the area well, and it's not really "huge foody" land I'm afraid. So my advice is to not expect too much on that front where after work drinks are concerned, and it's just possible that your husband's London colleagues might not be hugely fussed about anything more than a decent nearby bar. Dragging them all (how many?) off to a formal-ish place might be a mistake, unless it's a proper dinner you have in mind? The Vintry in Abchurch Lane may be a decent compromise.
