Peking Duck in Stamford Area?

cristenv Mar 22, 2011 02:20 PM

I've noticed a couple of message boards addressing Chinese restaurants in the Stamford area, but are there any places that do a decent peking duck around here? I'm having a big craving!

my guess is that you may, and repeat may, have a couple responses to this questions. but if you do not have it is because there just may not be any in the area. similar questions have gone unanswered in the past. do not take it personally. :-)

to your question, though, I have not found any, and i hope i am wrong.

A "decent" Peking duck is served at Pearl East on Summer St. Not extraordinary, not NYC level, and sometimes a bit dry, but it'll do when the craving hits.

Who woulda thunk? Very servicable Peking Duck. Our bird was moist without being greasy, the wrap was delicious, and the price for a full portion not bad (26). Waitress did a nice job assembling the meat, scallion and sause inside the crepe. We took home the legs, but they didn't travel well (maybe we should have paddled).

I've driven past this place a thousand times, thought it was just a takeout joint. Actually, Pearl East is straight out of 1980's suburbia. May try something else on the menu next time... with measured expectations. Not Flushing or Chinatown, but Stamford 1989.

Glad you liked the duck.. I get a kick out of the decor, too. The owners appear to be obsessed with lighting. I once counted 12 or 15 different styles of light fixtures in the place (not in any way compatible with one another), and it's usually bright enough to do brain surgery. The waitstaff is the typical range for Chinese restaurants--from sweet and helpful young women with virtually no English, to older men and women who are so surly they don't talk enough for you to figure out whether they speak English or not. All in all, not a really engaging dining-in experience, so I mainly do takeout there.

We used to live near Pearl East. They also have an "authentic Chinese" menu, if you ask for it. Some good items on it, but unfortunately can't remember any specifics.
