Atlantis Pavillion-Reviews wanted

Hey everyone,

My fiance and I are considering the Atlantis Pavillion for our wedding. I was just wondering if anyone has gotten married there or attended a wedding there. Was it nice? Was the distance from the parking an issue? how was the food? Service? event planners?

  1. I had my wedding there last summer. I had been told by several people that the food there was good, and my husband and I really wanted something both easily accessible and on the water. Overall we were very happy with our venue. We had a lot of guests from out of town and they really loved the place, and the location was perfect. Parking distance was not an issue as they have golf carts for people who can't or don't want to walk. I dealt with two event planners. The first one was great but she left , second one was ok I guess but I don't think our personalities meshed well.

    Onto the food. My husband and I had a terrible experience at the tasting. We found that everything tasted processed and kind of synthetic. I was really mortified at the thought of serving this food to our guests. I expressed my concerns to the event planner but I didn't feel she understood quite the extent of our disappointment. Anyway, as luck would have it, another one of my vendors was very well-connected to the venue; she totally understood my concerns and I guess she worked her magic with them because the meal on the day of the wedding was fantastic. It wasn't particularly creative or anything, but it was good quality food properly executed. Thankfully, it was nothing at all like what we had at the tasting. Also, contrary to the tasting, portions were huge and some guests actually packed up their leftovers and took them home! Service was truly excellent, well above my expectations. The event planner had led me to believe that certain requests couldn't be accommodated due to policy, but the team who worked my wedding did indeed accommodate all those requests. They were also very accommodating as far as dietary restrictions.

    So, overall I was happy with the venue. But if the food had been anything like what I was served at the tasting, or if the service had been as the second event planner had led me to expect, I'm not sure I would have been so happy.

      Bunnylicious - I'm wondering if the planner you worked with happened to be one of the recommended suppliers from the venue. I'm making a decision about booking Atlantis for my wedding, and a good friend expressed hesitation about one of the recommended planners based on her experience with that planner (although at another venue). Her issues echo yours (expressing that certain requests couldn't be accommodated due to "policy"). Thanks very much.

        Hi minifoodie. The event planner I refer to in my previous post is actually employed by Atlantis. Basically when you book with them they assign you one of their own planners to help out with details related to the venue. The first person I worked with was great, but the second one, as I said, did not really click with me. A lot of the stuff that the first planner had told me would be fine suddenly became impossible with her. Luckily, I had a lot of the stuff in writing, but not everything...

        The vendor I refer to who helped make sure the food and service were excellent is a preferred vendor, though I'm not sure she attends all the open houses held by the venue, and her name wasn't on the list they initially gave me. She is indeed a wedding planner, though I only hired her for day-of services. She was really excellent, I loved working with her, and I'm confident that I owe the great food and service I had to her. Plus, she really made the day stress-free.

        When I went to the tasting, nothing was to my liking. For example, the chicken had that subway-esque texture. Duck was rubbery. Beef tasteless. Cheesecake itself was ok but came garnished with fake fruit "coulis" in colours fruit don't come in. Hubby and I were really horrified. The venue planner didn't seem to understand our concerns, or perhaps didn't care. Also, the venue allows you to bring in some food for the late night table. Venue planner said that they couldn't reheat anything and that they would not go out to accept a delivery for us. I expressed my concerns to my day-of coordinator, who really seemed to care and promised to talk to them on our behalf. I'm not sure who she talked to or what she did, but on the day of the event, the food was great. As I mentioned, not creative, but certainly better than a lot of wedding food out there. We had hors d'oeuvres, an antipasto platter, tortellini, beef tenderloin, and cheesecake. Everything was well-received and people were even packing up their tenderloin leftovers ( i think it was 8 oz and perfectly medium rare) . Service was excellent and they did heat up our late night food and receive our delivery with pleasure.

        So I think that if I had (begrudgingly) gone along with everything the venue planner had said, I would have been disappointed. But because the external day-of coordinator got involved, food and service turned out great.

      3. We booked our wedding at Atlantis Pavilion at Ontario Place because of the gorgeous space and view and the great reviews online. Our wedding is a month away now and I feel very disappointed with our dealings with Atlantis so far. I hope the actual day of our wedding will go more smoothly. When we had the tasting, the food and service were wonderful. We are just running into a lot of problems keeping the planner to honor what she originally told us when we booked with them.

        They already screwed up a couple times, first putting down the wrong time for our ceremony and then when we corrected them they neglected to check whether the room we were booking was still available – which we later found out wasn’t. We had to push our start time by half an hour and we were able to book the rooftop (which originally we were told wasn’t available). Even though it all worked out at the end, it was added hassle and stress to something that already has plenty of both. They also screwed up a couple meeting times, scheduling them and then needing to cancel and reschedule because it turned out that Atlantis would be closed at that time.

        When we first booked with them, we loved how flexible they were. They said that it isn’t a problem to extend the dinner service and make the time between courses longer which is something we want to do, that we didn’t need to make a decision on the menu until later on, and that basically whatever we want is fine, they’re there to serve us.

        Now that it’s time to actually narrow down the details we have to fight for every single item, suddenly we are being told that they don’t like changing the service time even though that was one of the main reasons we went with this venue – we met with other venues that said they can’t delay the service and we didn’t book them.

        The menu is a problem too, originally we were told that we just need to pick an approximate menu and we can change it later once we know more details, now we’re being told that we need to pay extra for changing the menu options and that the menu we picked on a whim is what we’re stuck with.

        When we booked with them originally I thought they were very accommodating, but now it looks like they will tell you whatever you want to hear in order to get you to book with them and then do whatever is convenient for them anyway. I'm not sure if this is true for everyone or just the coordinator that we are dealing with. My advice if you book this space, is make sure to get everything in writing, even the small questions that you aren’t sure about. I’m just happy that a lot of our discussions were done online so at least we have emails to prove what was said.

          Hey everyone,

          I looked at Atlantis Pavillion for our wedding next October. I really loved the atmosphere and the 7 hour host bar was an added bonus! I am still considering Atlantis for a venue but after reading some these reviews I am bit hesitant.

          Is the Event Coordinator you guys are referring to happen to be a Jennifer Robbins? I am curious and would like to know just in case I do book with Atlantis.

            Your post has definitely scared my fiance and I. We had a coordinator with Atlantis that we really liked and he left them. We haven't heard from anyone yet, even though they told us they were hiring someone new and we would hear from them at the beginning of August. Good tip though...about getting everything in writing....luckily we've done that all along, but i have to remind myself to keep doing it. Hope the wedding went well in the end! It is still a beautiful venue!

              The coordinator we have is not new, she's been with them for a while, she's one of their senior coordinators. I don't know if we just didn't mesh or if this is a common thing for her. It is not Jennifer Robbins or the new one starting in August (obviously).

              We have complained to her and her manager about the situation and haven't had any problems since then. I am hoping now that we've resolved the issues we were having we won't run into anymore. I still like the venue and the food/service and just hope that we can work everything out so that our day will go off properly.

                We had our wedding this past weekend in Atlantis, and I'm happy to report that despite all the problems we had planning our event, on the day of the staff and venue were great. Tristan was the venue manager who was working on the day of the wedding and he was great - I wish we could've dealt with him all along.
                We had some last minute guest changes and we needed to change up the meals and the venue took care of it no problem. Everyone was very helpful and very accommodating, from the waiters to the managers. The food was very good too, we got a lot of compliments on it.
                There was only one issue with the late night food - we asked the late night food to be served on platters to each table but they ended up serving it on the side station anyway. I'm not sure whose mistake that was, but overall that was really not a big deal. We also had a wonderful day-of coordinator who made sure everything runs smoothly and she said all the staff were very good to deal with.

          2. The service staff at Atlantis far exceeded our expectations from the cart driver to the wait staff, everyone was on their A game.

              must have been nice.....our event coordinator didn't even show up on the day of our wedding...cart drivers were non existent.
