looking for puerto rican restaurant

i am looking for a recommendation for a puerto rican restuarant in the times square / midtown area. we were in rincon puerto rico last fall and loved the food, especially the mofongo. thank you

Not a good neighborhood for Puerto Rican food. Best options are to consider traveling or consider alternative cuisines.

Sofrito on 57th east of First has upscale PuertoRican food; I have not been there is a few years so cannot comment, but we thought it was a decent neighborhood spot at the time. I think there is also a late night scene:

The place is slammed on Th-Sun. 2 hour wait after 6PM

El Deportivo on 49th and 9th. Good food but no frills

El Deportivo closed last fall. A west side location of Traffic on 2nd Ave. is supposed to be opening there.

shame about El Deportivo. i worked not far from there and would sit at the counter quite often. that chopped garlic in oil could cure any hangover real quick! there's a place in the LES on Rivington and Essex that is similar. don't know the name, but it's on the southwest corner.

El Castillo de Jagua? I thought it was Dominican. Not that I could tell you the difference.

yes, that's it...and i also couldn't say what the differences would be between Puerto Rican and Dominican food. for what it's worth, they make a great Cuban sandwich.
