Going to be in Austin next weekend. Where is the best place to watch in town to watch the NCAA's

What part of town will you be staying? Will you have a car? Do you want the place to have food?

Ouch. This reminds me of why I went away for years and quit posting! How about giving a rec and letting the poster decide if they want to go to the place you recommend? Hopefully someone helpful will chime in, I don't have a clue. Zax? Downtown doesn't really have the sports watching venue.

Sorry for the abrasion. Austin ain't that huge and the request isn't original or terribly specific. Cover 3 is the fanciest sports bar I know of. It's been discussed plenty on this board. Perhaps the OP is interested in a fancy sports bar, but I'm guessing here since the request is vague. A search for "austin sports bars" would would likely be very fruitful.

Cover 3 was very good thanks for the rec we had a great time. I agree with Minatalks though, Chowhounds doesn't need the condesending attitude. After all it's just eats in a little town in Texas.

Huh? Why is it out of line to ask the OP to flesh out the criteria a little more? That didn't seem rude to me at all. Much easier to be helpful when you know what the person needs.

Anyway, my personal pick would definitely be Cover 3. The food is actually worth going for.

optimista, the comment everyone referred to has been removed, which is leading to further confusion :-)

There is a new place on east Riverside called the Draft Pick. Just opened this past week. Went yesterday and found it to be very nice.

There's another new place on Riverside @ Barton Springs called The Upper Decks. I don't frequent sports bars, but there must be a need since two just opened up on the same street.

I haven't been to draft pick, but their list of local beer taps is impressive.

I enjoy the Hooter's on Riverside. Probably 50 flat screens and always great coverage. Ice cold beer and hot wings. Get them tossed in 3-mile Island sauce then again in hot sauce for a truly tasty wing!

The deck at Red's Porch on South Lamar might be a nice option. Good beer selection. Surprisingly decent grub. I can't even think about the NCAA tournament any more, after the way Texas lost. But that's fodder for a different discussion board.

Chain Drive has excellent drink specials and plenty of sports fans.
