Looking for San Mateo/Burlingame restaurant for business lunch

Hello!

I am so out of touch with the Peninsula, but am trying to find a suitable place for a business lunch in San Mateo/Burlingame or very close thereto. I don't know everyone's tastes, so, unfortunately, nothing too adventurous! Any suggestions?

TIA!

Agree with the previous suggestions. I often go to San Mateo for asian restaurants, usually Japanese. But for a "safe" semi-elegant business lunch I think Central Park Bistro (American) which was already mentioned, http://www.centralparkbistro.com/ or Spiedo (Italian), both on 4th Ave. http://www.spiedo.com/ are good choices.

the "best lunch" in San Mateo is 231 Ellsworth, although they're a bit bumpy, the place will be fairly deserted. I suspect the chef may have changed since my last visit, but it should still be good. Viogner is a similar business lunch feel, widely spaced tabels, but the food is more pretentious than tasty - a "ladies who lunch" spot. A bit more interesting and lively is Central Park Bistro; recommended. Unless I was getting a call for a formal lunch, I'd choose central park.

Regrettably, San Mateo Prime is not open for lunch. Kingfish is Sysco-quality but safe (and too ale-house to make a good choice for business). I have not tried Osteria Coppa or Astaria.

Most of my favorite restaurants - besides Pancho Villa - are asian. The most business-class would be Champagne, which has dimsum ordered lunch (no carts) and some private rooms (6 people? 8?). Arguably, there are several better dim sum places about (like HK Causeway Bay, catty-corner), but Champagne has the best combination of food and business trappings. There are a number of great japanese places, but they're more informal. And chinese (Little Sheep, Everyday Beijing, Little Sichuan (if you order Sichuan), spices 4). And a few great Indian.

Consider looking up Village Pub. If you're doing business on the 280 corridor, this may be the ticket - superb food, wonderful "masters of the universe" atmosphere.

I can't speak for Burlingame. Good luck!
